Opium Wars- Imperialism in China

What happened during The Opium Wars?
The Opium war 1839-1842, Known as the most humiliating defeat in China. But what had happened during this time was china had signed a treaty with Great Britain. the treaty was a one sided treaty. The Chinese had to give up Hong-Kong to the British, they had to agree to extraterritorial rights (anyone from Britain or the USA who commit ed a crime in china could not be in trouble or charged in Chinese court). Now the British and other could use 4 other ports instead of the one Guangzhou. The war began because the wanted to force china to import Opium from British merchants. But the Chinese refused. and for 2 reasons, 1 they didn't want a Chinese addicts, and 2 they knew that England had baned Opium from coming into Britain.
they lost because British had better weapons. this was the Opium war.

Imperialism Project

There reason why we did this project was to show how the countries that the Europeans was conquered in parts of America. it was to show the divisions of those countries in those continents. Also to show the trading routes of the countries. I learned how many countries were conquered other and how there were in completely different continents. For example how some countries in Europe Conquered parts of Africa etc.

Film Lesson: "Mountains of the Moon"

Some of the hardships the Europeans faced while exploring Africa were, Sickness, lack of food and supplies, Men were dying one by one from drinking the salt water or from disease, tribes would attack them, Richard Burton had a spire thrown at him and went right through his cheek. John Speeke had bugs go in his ear. These were some of the hardships they faced. But why is it strange that source of the Nile River was named after Queen Victoria? well its strange because shes all the way in Europe and That lake is located where they have never even seen white people before. there all of dark colored skin and its named after her? sorta weired. But the European had an advantage against the Africans. They were way more civilised then they Africans. So they thought it was the duty to to teach he edict and manners, pretty much how to be civilised. Plus there technology was so far more advanced the had guns and such. While the Africans had none whats so ever. they only had wooden spears. that's why it was simple for Europeans to conquer Africa.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

Nationalism: is the belief that ones greatest loyalty goes to a nation of people, who share common culture and history.

group called young And how am i nationalistic? I wouldn't exactly consider myself nationalistic, because my country isn't more important than my Family. But nationalism was used to create Italy. Before Italy became to be, it was known as "the kingdom of the tow sicilies". Which was ruled by Austria. But how did they become there own country? Man like Giuseppe Mazzini, Cavour, and Garibaldi formed a nationalistic group and where able to form Italy.

John Locke and "The Enlightenment"

John Locke, was most likely the most well known enlightenment think of. And it just so happens that if mad a huge impact on Thomas Jefferson. Especially when he wrote the United States constitution.

He thought that all man kind are meant to be treated equal. so when writing the constitution he mentioned the right of man. These rights are known as liberty, life and the pursuit of happiness. It basically meant that you as the people should always have right to say something (freedom of speech). Your opinion should always be considered because the government is suppose to be taking care of you. And you most definitely have a fight to pursuit your happiness (be happy). That you too have Power, and if your government fail to meet there standers you can rebuild and construct a new one.

But where exactly does the government come from? Once again the government comes from you. The government is meant to keep everyone in check. Where do they get its power? From the people they are only as strong as you want them to be. The government works for you.

Basically these are all the Ideas of John Locke.

Copernicus and the trial of Galileo

These two theories, both are on the same topic. But have different outcomes to there theories. These two theories are Heliocentric and Geocentric.

But these two theories were developed at different times. The Geocentric was thought of first. This theory was based on how the earth was the center of the universe. But the earth is not in the center of the universe. If anything, the sun is the center of the universe. so therefor Galileo theory was wrong.

Heliocentric, this theory explains that the sun overall is the center of everything. And that the other planets revolve around the sun. Even Copernicus was able to mathematically prove the heliocentric explanation of the solar system to be correct. Johannes Kepler was even able to helpe expand this idea. Heliocentric theory was developed by the scientific revolution. Large amounts of people are against this theory because how it has an interference with their religion. But now more people are open to this theory.

Scientific Revolution: The Scientific Method

During the Scientific Revolution, scientist used sometihng called the Scientific Method to gain knowledge and information. The Scientific Method are steps scientists used to find new things about the world. The first thing u need for a scientific method is a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess based on observation. Many experiments use the scientific method. Even people today use this method, Galileo. Galileo was an Italian physicist. He was testing Aristotle's theory. How a heavier object would fall faster than a lighter object. Galileo proved Aristotle's theory was completly wrong. He dropped a heavy ball and light ball from the leaning Tower of Pisa. When he tested the experiment, the heavy and light ball reached the ground at the exact same time.

Evolution vs. Creation

For years people have been fighting over the two theories known to man. the theory of Evolution, and the theory of Creation.

The theory of Evolution. There have been many people who have thought about it.but only one man was actually capable to gather the information. His name is Charles Darwin. And his theory was that man kind were first primates. That we human have evolved over extremely long periods of time. And all this was Proven though science . this is the theory of evolution.

But there are so many people who disagree with Charles Darwin's theory. The other 50% of American disagree. This other theory is known as Creation. The theory of creation has been around for years. the theory of creation is all thought from a book. know as the bible or others many know it as the old testament and the new testament. But within the bible that this man known as god was the one to create Man, animal and the world. And that this was completed within seven days. But within the bible there is a story. A story of Adam and Eve. The story says that God created man (known as Adam). And from Adam he removed a kidney or a rib or something of man and created woman (known as Eve and hence the name WOMAN). So it was there duty to populate the world. And this is the theory of Creation.

But in my opinion? i would have to the most proof, which is the Evolution. Not that I'm saying that the theory of creation is wrong. The Evolution just makes a lot of sence to me. Plus it sounds a lot more reasonable. I mean does anyone really even know. at leats evolution has proof (science). But creation? all it has is the bible? how do we even know if its actually accurate?. well this is my opinion
on Evolution Vs. Creation.
